Restrictions and limitations of radio frequencies have provided most the delays to the Fly in France project, with only 2 UK compatible channels it has proved difficult to operate.
Radio Frequencies in France are being brought in to line with the European harmonisation directive, this from your point is good and states that 35mHz will be the standard frequency for aero modelling throughout Europe. In 2007 the French complied with the European Directive, however they only confirmed 2 channels on 35mHz. Since then channels 60 & 61 have been available for aero modelling use but not exclusively.
I am pleased to confirm that as of June 2011 we have available the following 35mhz frequencies exclusive for aeromodelling.
35,000 - 35,010 - 35.020 - 35.030 - 35.040 - 35.050 MHz or channels 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65.
From April 2012 we should also have the entire 2.4gHz band with no power restrictions however the current availability is restricted to
2400 – 2454 MHz 100mW
2454.5 – 2483.5 MHz 10mW
Most available transmitters from main line radio suppliers (Futaba, Multiplex, Spectrum, HiTec, JR, Sanwa) have the facility to restrict the 100mw power to the lower end of the spectrum. This may not be the case with some lower end model/transmitter combinations.
I am trying to keep this section up to date but for the latest information please visit the French Aero Modelling Associations site www.ffam.asso.fr/ct_frequences.htm
The F3A European championsips are due to take place in late July. Their web site is stating that they would prefer competitors to use 2.4GHz and that the restrictions should be lifted prior to the competition.
As at the 21st April I have had no official information changing the situation, I have directly requested information from the FFAM and will report any response.
