The Loire valley boosts over 300 different châteaux along the central region. Covering them all is outside the scope of this site, here are a selection within reasonable distance. The châteaux are still privately owned but many are open to the public.

Montresor – our closest château and a nice village to visit. 10km

Loches – our closest town, the royal lodge and “proper” castle, well worth a visit. 20km

Valencay – Internally the most complete of the châteaux, the contents of most have been sold off to pay the bills over the years! 25km

Chenonceau – a beautiful château, spanning the river Cher. Set in fantastic formal gardens surrounded by ancient woodland. Close by is the wine producing town of Montrichard. 25km

Amboise – a pretty town on the banks of the Loire, the last resting place of Leonardo de Vinci. 45km

Cheverny – believed to be the inspiration for the château in the “Tintin” stories, Regularly has special events related to the stories. 45km

Blois – the château is becoming famous for its “light and Sound” shows, why not visit for an evening! 60km

Chambord – Most bonkers of all the château, designed to be bigger and have every feature the owner liked of every château he visited! 65km

Villandry – impressive château just to the west of Tours, with fantastic formal gardens. 75km
