The major intention at the outset of this project was to proved access to more predictable weather whilst allowing modellers to fly their own models. Accessibility by road was therefore an essential consideration.

Driving to La Grande Michellerie is simple following the auto route system. It is possible to drive the entire route from Calais, in around 5-6 hours, without departing from the auto route except for the last 20 kilometres. It puts Fly in France far enough south to benefit from more reliable weather whilst keeping the driving to a practical distance.

For those who are a little more adventurous or would like to see more of the beauties of France can always choose one of several alternative routes.

We will provide a selection of possible routes with your booking information or plan your own using the ViaMichelin web site.

The obvious ferry crossing is Dover to Calais (P&O Ferries or SeaFrance) or Dover to Dunkirk (DFDS Seaways). A major alternative is to cross from Newhaven to Dieppe (LD Lines), Dieppe is less than a 4 hour drive from Fly in France. Those further west may also consider the routes from Portsmouth and Southampton.
